“I am amazed and feel truly blessed that the messages in my music translate across all languages and cultures - it’s one of the things I am more proud of,” says the artist of his success phenomenon.

With each new release, Julio Iglesias managed to top his previous successes and, along the way, become one of the brightest and most recognizable stars in the world of popular music.
The legendary artist has performed with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Willie Nelson.
The original crossover artist, Julio has released 80 albums in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and German.
Already in 1971, Julio sold his first one million albums. In 1972, his song Un canto a Galicia topped the charts in Latin America and Europe and later that year, Julio began recording in various languages, the first release being in Germany. A year later, in 1973, he broke the marks of awards won by any music artist in Spain and Latin America.
In 1984, Iglesias released his first English album – 1100 Bel Air Place. In 1985, a star with his name was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Equal to the numerous awards won were the number of times his concerts broke box office records – in 1976, his performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden shattered a longstanding attendance record and while in Chile, more than 100,000 people attended his concert at the National Stadium of Santiago. In 1980, he performed as a guest of President Anwar Sadat in front of the Egyptian Pyramids, establishing a reputation as a favourite of dignitaries and government luminaries from all over the world.
It may seem like Julio has time for little else than performance and song. But that’s not the case when it comes to an important cause. Julio was appointed as a Special Representative for the Performing Arts, a title he holds to this day. He points out that UNICEF supplies an outlet for him to impact the lives of so many he is otherwise unable to reach. “The world has given so much, it’s important to give something back”, he says.
A remarkable natural athlete, Julio had long harboured ambitions to play professional soccer and, as a teenager, landed his dream job as goalkeeper for the professional team, Real Madrid.
After a brief stint playing with the team, his professional soccer career ended when a dramatic, near-fatal accident in 1962 left him partially paralyzed and unable to walk for nearly two years. With dreams of playing soccer nearly crushed, Julio helped pass the time by listening to the radio and writing poems while recuperating. From his sadness and pain sprang complex, sad and romantic verses, which over time and with the aid of an old guitar, Julio began to augment with music. Out of that physical therapy and his poetic musings, Julio Iglesias discovered a new passion that would envelop his life and play an important part in reshaping the way the world hears music. “Music became a way to heal both my physical and emotional self,” Iglesias reflects.
With the release of his first English-language album in more than 12 years – Romantic Classics – Julio Iglesias continues to bring us new ways of looking at and dealing with romance, while also continuing to perform hundreds of concerts in multiple languages around the world. It is in both this energy, and his capability as the world’s foremost singer in matters-of-the-heart, that Iglesias will never be equalled, not just in the number of albums sold, but even more so, in the number of lives he has touched around the globe.

Romantic Classics is the first English language album from Julio Iglesias since 1994's Crazy. For this album Julio has drawn from the worlds of pop, rock and country music to record his sublime interpretations of songs originally performed by a diverse range of artists including Willie Nelson, George Michael, the Bee Gees and The Cars.

"For this album, I’ve carefully considered the question of what makes a pop song classic. What sort of songs not only reach the top of the charts but reverberate in our ears - and our hearts - forever, becoming as familiar as memories? This was my starting point for Romantic Classics. With the help of my friends and producers Albert Hammond and Robert Buchanan, I’ve chosen songs from the ’60s, ‘70s and ‘80s that I believe will come to be regarded as the new standards. I’ve drawn from the worlds of pop, rock and country, and from artists as diverse as Willie Nelson and George Michael, the Bee Gees and The Cars. Regardless of the era or the genre, the songs I’ve found are united by a common theme, one that I have often explored in my work. They eloquently address one stage or another in the life of a romance, from infatuation and longing to heartbreak and betrayal. Each has a melody that’s impossible to resist and lyrics that will continue to be relevant as long as people fall in and out of love. During sessions at studios in Los Angeles and Punta Cana, I endeavored to truly reinterpret these hits, not simply remake them, taking a fresh approach for a contemporary audience. I hope that those of you who remember these songs will savor them once again and that those who are just discovering them will enjoy them as much as I did when I heard them for the first time," says Julio about his latest work.

The Romantic Classics of Julio Iglesias in Arena Riga will not only be musically and emotionally saturated, it will also be a show of visual effect featuring a variety of the highest-class musicians, background vocalists and dancers.
And ofcourse in the centre of everything - Julio Iglesias - still as young and charming as in the beginnings of his career, sensual and a little bit melacholic. A professional of the highest grade staging a technique of perfection, a unique voice. And ofcourse dressed in one of his elegant suits Julio Iglesias is a man who can touch the heart of any woman and be admired by any man in any corner of the world.
